Why doesn't Laridian collect VAT for sales in the EU?

Because we are a US-based company with no presence in the EU, we are not registered for EU VAT and therefore cannot charge or collect VAT. And because we are US-based, with no presence in the EU, EU governments have no jurisdiction over us and can't compel us to act as their agents to collect taxes from their citizens. We're not going to do so voluntarily because to do so makes us subject to other EU laws and regulations that we don't want to have any part of.

Under our understanding of EU rules, when a customer in the EU purchases digital goods from a non-EU seller that is not VAT-registered, any VAT obligation — if applicable — is handled by the purchaser under their local tax rules. This is standard and does not affect the legality or validity of your purchase.

Many EU customers purchase software, ebooks, and digital services from non-EU vendors under the same arrangement.

If you need an invoice stating that no VAT was charged because the seller is not EU VAT-registered, we’re happy to provide that.
